Building a World with Restrained Magic
Magic is often treated as a shortcut to spectacle. In Tales of the Ancients, we treat magic as a problem — not a solution.
Why Restraint Matters
When magic is everywhere, it stops meaning anything. Restraint preserves tension, uncertainty, and consequence.
Magic as Narrative Weight
Limiting magic makes non-magical choices matter: preparation, positioning, knowledge, and steel regain importance.
Impact on the World
Settlements are shaped by caution. Knowledge is fragmented. The world reflects fear of the unknown rather than confidence.
